Olfactomics technology in discrimination of animal tissues

A research paper by Anton Kontunen describing DMS’s potential in tissue identification was published on highly regarded Annals of Biomedical Engineering!

The study presents a method for detecting tissue characteristics from surgical smoke via differential ion mobility spectrometry. DMS responses from ten different porcine tissues were cross-validated with linear discriminant analysis models, yielding a classification accuracy of 95 %.

As electrosurgery is used widely in surgical operations, these findings offer proof for the possibility to research the method in human tissues in the future.
